Quality vs "quality"
Today a quick complaint.
A few months back, i started using f-droid, instead of google store a lot more. Only up until that point i was searching through the sewage tank that the google app is.
I knew about f-droid for a while, but thought not much of it. Just understood it as an alternative instead of google store, but eventually i had to download a few more apps from there, i quickly found out that it is vastly superior towards google. First thing comes to mind is that you immediately know whether there are adds, they are closed source/ utilize closed source, use internet services and etc. in the given app. This in contrast with google, which has none of that information - only after some laws forced them to disclose some safery info - automaticaly and incorrectly translates the quick description of an app and then blocks you from viewing ALL reviews, like seriously, to this day i am unable to conveniently look at english reviews, if at all, instead being left with whatever the nitwits from this shithole defecate out of their mouths, mostly useless information rivaling that of LLM's. The only, and ONLY appealing thing is the visual side - f-droid just looks ugly...
Availabilty of f-droid is simple - download apk - get through the settings that block you from installing apks ( considering that google store contains borderline malware, this probalby exists so that google store gets more customers), and there you go, download whatever is there, on the other hand while google store is available on practically all phones, it needs your google account - this has a single understandable reason - payments, but that also allows google to spy on you. It is also impractical mainly if the phone you have in your hand is not yours - you just need to get one apk which is atroucious- now you have to navigate archival sites that are even more questionabke just to get something basic running.
I should probably talk about the contents - google offers an app and several alternatives - eg. A document viewer - it will give you:
- Spyware from one of the big three that works, is bloated, but is alright for average joe
- Ad-spyware from some shitty small company, for its lack of bloat and hence slowdowns, it compensates by forcing you to watch shitty ads. I hope i will never have to use this ever again, usually design on these slightly reminds you of 1. Which makes it look like a scam...
- Dysfunctional/malware - kinda like 2. But it doesnt even do what you want.
- And if you dig far enough, you may find a legendary pull - a foss android app - you will download it once and never think about it ever again.
To me it feels like google apps get popularity based on their appearance. And also to mention that companies can simply pay to have their slop pushed to you, like i literally look up a specific app and it will give me something else because they paid for it, but if i look for the generic thing it will give me the original result eg. "Google documents" gives a random 2. But "documents" give "Google documents" like if that isnt ridiculous enough. There is also another method to find high quality apps on google store - pay. Looking through most (not all) paid apps - they seem to be higher quality, atleast when it comes to games. (Phone gamers LMAO).
On f-droid most apps have an available github link, no adds and simple usage - they do not however have appealing visual design - most of them have the basic layout chosen by android stidio during development - this to me doesnt matter as they mostly apply to unix philosphy of doing one thing and doing it properly. The issues with contents is that f-droid has a lot of dead apps, and is missing bunch of categories, mostly stuff that requires internet servers obviously.
Oops, this wasn't that short nvm, if you want more articles, email me at 4 am that i should drink coffee when i wake up, seems to me that that motivates me enough to write these opinions. Thanks, bye.
